A mixed grill is a plate of several meats cooked over charcoal and served together. On our menu it closes the Charcoal Grill section. In Arabic it is مشاوي مشكلة, mashawi mshakkale, which simply means mixed grills.
What goes on the plate
Our Mixed Grill has five things on it, all charcoal grilled on skewers: seasoned minced lamb, minced chicken, marinated chicken cubes, lamb chops and chicken wings. It comes with rice and a chilli and garlic sauce, and costs £29.45.
Each of those is also a dish of its own. The minced lamb is the Lamb Kofta Khush-Khash, with parsley, finely chopped onion and warm spices. The minced chicken is the Chicken Kofta. The chicken cubes are the Shish, marinated with lemon, garlic and spices. The mixed grill is the way to try a bit of each without ordering three mains.
Why charcoal
Everything in the grill section cooks over charcoal. That is where the smoky taste comes from, and the dark edges on the kofta and the lamb chops. The peppers and chillies on the plate go over the same coals.
Can I change what is on it?
Yes. Any swap in the mixed grill is £4. If you prefer more lamb chops and no wings, tell your waiter. The dish is dairy free, and you can ask for the gluten-free option. All our food is halal.
Mixed grills for sharing
If there are two or four of you, look at the To Share page of the menu. The Mixed Grill for Two is £66.95: lamb kofta, chicken kofta, chicken breast cubes, lamb chops and chicken wings for a maximum of two people. The Mixed Grill for Four is £142.95 and feeds up to four.
The Beirut Signature Experience goes further. It is three courses: a run of mezze first, with hummus, moutabal, fattoush, falafel, vine leaves, moussaka and more, then the mixed grills, then baklawa. For two it is £83.95 with one plate of mixed grills. For four it is £149.95 with two.
And without meat?
The Vegetable Mixed Grill is charcoal grilled vegetables and halloumi with rice and garlic sauce, at £20.95, and there is a vegan option. For two people, The Beirut Vegetarian Experience for Two (£73.95) follows the same three courses as the Signature, with vegetable and halloumi mixed grills in the middle.
How to order it
On your own, order the Mixed Grill from the mains. For a table, start with two or three cold starters to share, hummus and fattoush for example, and add a Mixed Grill for Two or Four. Bread is £1.95 and rice with vermicelli is £3.25 if you want extra.
